The Liebster Award! (I’ve been nominated, and who I’m nominating!)

I got home from a long day of work to find that my little blog has been nominated for The Liebster Award!  The wonderful How to Be James nominated me and I can’t thank him enough, please do go and check out his blog.  From what I can see, the award is for small blogs with under 200 followers in order to build community, gain recognition and generally spread some joy.  My central focus of this blog is that one day it will be an online magazine where a community can find peace, happiness and resources.

Here are the rules before I get to the interesting stuff:

1. Acknowledge the blogger who nominated you and display the award logo.
2. Answer 11 questions that the blogger gives you.
3. Nominate 11 blogs that you think are deserving of the award.
4. Create 11 questions for your nominees to answer.
5. Let the bloggers know of their nomination!

Here goes with my answers to the questions James set for me:

Is a hotdog a sandwich? Why or why not?
A hotdog is a sandwich because it’s bread with something in the middle and in my mind, that constitutes a sandwich.

What is your idea of perfect happiness?
This is such a wonderful question but so hard to define.  It’s that moment where you’re in the middle of something completely ordinary and you just think, ‘damn, I’m happy’.  Particularly as someone with mental health issues these moments are very poignant for me.  Simple things really do it for me: looking at the night sky and realising my best friend is seeing the same sky, miles away, oceans apart but just feeling connected because of that.  Little jokes shared between friends that nobody else would understand.  Swings.  Golden hour.  Country walks.  Watching birds.  Playing guitar.

Which living person do you most admire?
Tegan and Sara Quin (who I’m counting as one person, because I like to bend the rules).  They have been my heroes for the last six years and make me a more confident and contented person every single day.  Their work for the LGBT community is unparalleled and the Tegan and Sara Foundation is doing amazing work already to support women and girls all over the world.

Why did you start your blog?
I initially started my blog quite selfishly because I wanted to write about my life and have some sort of outlet but I’ve gradually realised that one day I’d love to turn this into an online community and resource for LGBTQIAP+ people like myself.

If you could go back in time, what advice would you give to your 13 year old self?
It’s okay to cry; it’s okay to love that girl; it’s okay to keep being you; you deserve to be happy and one day you will be; (please, please stop shaving your arm hair omg).

How do you handle setbacks?
I try to look at the times when I’ve had setbacks in different areas of my life and acknowledge the fact that I’ve always managed to keep going in the end.  If that fails I stare at motivational quotes until I feel something.

What’s your favourite memory?
There was this day, a few years back, where me and one of my closest friends (who I call my brother) hung out all day.  We got iced coffee and went skateboarding and ran around this local park.  We went on the swings and petted dogs and ate ice cream.  It was one of those unique, unplanned days which went beautifully and couldn’t have been more perfect.  It was a really wonderful day and it came at a time when I really needed something good in my life.  Words can’t really do it justice.

What did you want to be when you grew up?
An actor/singer/archaologist/writer.

If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you’d buy?
A huge building in order to set up the charity I’d like to start.  Either that or an apartment/house.

What’s your favourite flavour of potato chips?
Ready salted cause I’m boring as all heck.

Was the dress blue and black or white and gold?

The questions I’d like my nominations to answer:

What’s the best gift you’ve ever been given?
If a bear and a shark had a fight, which would win?
What’s your favourite desert?
What item of clothing makes you feel great?
What’s your favourite movie at the moment?
What’s your favourite meme/vine?
If you could only listen to one music album for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Do you have a favourite poem?  If not, a favourite song?
What was your favourite subject in school?
If you could meet one celebrity/public figure who would it be?
Are bow-ties cool?

Thanks for giving me this rad opportunity- I’ll be back with another blog post tomorrow if all goes to plan!- AB
